Art at
Maker
Then and now, old and new, exhibitions, happenings and experiments; creativity never dies. Maker and art, it’s a history.
Art at Maker Heights
Since the early 1990’s Maker Heights has been home to a wide variety of visual artists, sculptors, print-makers, photographers, filmmakers, artisans and ceramicists.
Maker has hosted a huge number of exhibitions, galleries and community art projects over the years. Occupying studio spaces within our historic Barrack Block and Nissen Hut complex, we have worked with up and coming artists as well as those of international standing.
We continue to actively build on this legacy. Garrison Gallery hosts regular exhibitions of Maker artists alongside early career artists and collectives.
We are also proud to host a number of visual artists in our studio spaces today. These include:
Rame Projects, a contemporary arts project space dedicated to testing out new ideas.
Koor Studio, whose work explores clay and Raku firing processes.
Tricia Salt / The Good Egg Studio works in print, paint, and performance.
Helen Elizabeth Kuumbi, a landscape and seascape painter.
Dom Moore a fine art photographer, and Tom Kirkman, filmmaker.
Huhtamaki Wab, whose practice operates within an animistic and non-anthropocentric world.
Red, a mixed media artist whose work includes portraiture, nudes and abstract painting.
Helen Round Design, hand-made products using ethically sourced materials and traditional techniques.
Soleil Store, an independent women’s clothing label
